Here's a topic I've been thinking about for a while.
When we first posted information about "The Underground" on 3DRealms I got a lot of feedback saying that the level was too empty and too boxy which I agree with.
What is the best way to add some more advanced shapes, designs, background effects etc etc?
I know Perry and RG have been tinkering with this type of stuff. Do you guys have any advice?

Hey, P. All I can suggest is to try to expand your areas in the background, above and below like Slate did in his DC mission maps. Look at them and some of the original game maps in the editor and you will notice a lot of 'background' details, pipes, furnaces, rooms, posters, etc. placed there just to make the map more interesting and dynamic.
Of course, if you have any specific questions about how to add a certain detail, like steam or flames, just post here for help.
Hope this helpsf! Good luck!.....................RG

Lighting also helps to set a mood.

That's very true, oakman, and I think Slate did a pretty good job lighting his levels. He even used lens flairs on some of the lights, IIRC.
